A comprehensive vision exam begins with a thorough ocular health history (personal and family) and a complete medical health history (personal and family). Certain ocular conditions have a genetic tendency and knowing family history alerts us as to any potential risks to your vision and your general health. In your incoming history we want to know if there are any vision problems that you are experiencing and whether you have any specific needs and or goals or outcomes that you are looking to achieve. This helps us tailor the exam specifically for your needs.
Following your case history in our pre-test room, we use state of the art technology to measure your prescription for distance vision (if needed), measure the size and shape of the front of your eyes (measuring any abnormalities that might affect vision) and 1 of 3 tests for glaucoma – in less than 1 minute. A visual field test is performed that can pick up blind spots that can be caused by anything from glaucoma to a brain tumor. Finally, we take digital photos of the back and front of your eyes where we can enlarge and document anything normal or not. These photos can be e-mailed to you or anyone we refer you to for treatment.
In the optometrists exam room you will be lead through a series of tests to measure tracking and eye muscle coordination. Your prescription measurements will be refined for the way you use your vision at work, home and play. Different instruments allow us to evaluate the health of all parts of your eyes. Finally, we take the time to explain everything with state of the art visual animation to help you understand and remember more from your exam. If there is a need for a prescription, we will discuss all options that can help you – among them are glasses, contact lenses, eye exercises, laser correction and CRT (corneal refractive therapy) – a procedure that arrests progressive myopic changes and allows you to wear contacts while you sleep to reshape the front of your eye so you can take it off in the morning and have great vision all day long. Finally, everyone who needs a prescription gets it – whether you purchase your eyewear here or not! We are confident that with the diversity of our selections from designer styles to the most current trends, we offer you one-stop-shopping with exceptional customer service.
